Chicago Marathon – Course, Elevation and Race Info

Chicago Marathon is one of the largest in the world, drawing 47,000 runners to the Windy City in 2023.

Renowned for its flat course, Chicago Marathon is a favorite among runners aiming for personal bests or BQ. The absence of significant hills along the 26.2-mile route, starting and concluding in Grant Park, sets a perfect stage for runners to push their limits without daunting elevation challenges.

In 2023, a new world record was set by Kelvin Kiptum: 2:00:35! What’s more amazing is that the 23-year-old Kenyan did it in only his third marathon ever. He has a legitimate shot at breaking the 2-hour mark for the first time in human history.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) offers an economical and convenient way to get around Chicago.

You’re encouraged to purchase CTA fares in advance at ventrachicago.com, in order to avoid waiting in long lines at the airport or a CTA station.

You can buy a one-ride or one-day Ventra ticket, but the best value is a Ventra Card, which is reloadable and offers options like 1-day, 3-day, or 7-day passes.
